By the time you are diagnosed with hypothyroidism

By the time you are diagnosed with hypothyroidism your thyroid has been under functioning for years (or decades). You have most likely been symptomatic and carrying an increased risk of early pregnancy loss the whole time.

By the time you are diagnosed with pre-diabetes the disease progression has caused significant damage to the beta cells in your pancreas, impacting blood sugar and craving control, fat burning and your metabolic and long term health.

By the time you are diagnosed with osteopenia, it’s been obvious in your pathology for years (or decades).

It’s was Christmas Day, 2023 and I handed Ian an

It’s was Christmas Day, 2023 and I handed Ian an envelope with a card and our positive pregnancy test result. Everything was amazing until late January when I started bleeding.

This is not a community I ever thought I would be a part of. I have two beautiful daughters, both conceived in the first month, both in the second half of my 30s, both birthed at home without intervention.

Secondary loss is different. Your logical brain tells you how lucky you are that you have a child/children, yet you grieve the new life you had already started to plan - their expected birth month, the age gap/s, the family you always dreamt you would have. And most often, literally while you are losing your baby you must continue to parent, to show up for your child/children at the exact moment you are losing your hopes and dreams.

And while I don’t feel I need to tell the whole story, I will not contribute to the shame and stigma still surrounding early pregnancy loss, by staying silent. And this is why I have chosen to share this part of my story online.

To those of you also in the community we never planned to be a part of, I want you to know that even though I understand firsthand the loneliness, you are not alone. To those of you navigating TTC or pregnancy after loss, I bow to your strength. I am here you with in solidarity and I truly hope you gain strength by knowing that I am ❤️
