How I Went Chemical Free – Part Two

Each day we are exposed to many chemicals, heavy metals and environmental toxins which can upset our hormones, gut health, and natural detoxification mechanisms.

Many years ago now I made the decision to change the food I ate, and more recently I have changed every product I use. I am sharing with you how I went chemical free in the hope that you will make a better choice too.

In part one we started in The Kitchen and in part two, we address common household products.

Traditional brands contains chemicals such as triclosan, parabens, and sodium laureth sulfate (SLS) which can not be supported by scientific research as safe for long term human use. Much of the current research puts these chemicals in the class of ‘endocrine disruptors‘ and can contribute to thyroid dysfunction, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), infertility and even cancer.

In order to reduce your chemical load, please address your choice of the following products:

  • Surface Spray
  • Window Cleaner
  • Dishwashing Liquid
  • Dishwashing Detergent
  • Rinse Aid
  • Washing Powder
  • Fabric Softener
  • Toilet Cleaner
  • Stain Remover

At TNN we are proud to collaborate with Eco Store, a company free of synthetic preservatives, as well as potentially harmful fragrances, colorants, chemicals and genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Please browse their full product range here.

The best approach is to make gradual changes but replacing the products you have the greatest exposure to first. As you finish what you currently have in stock, make the transition across to a brand such as Eco Store.

I am in the process of going low tox in our household. It is a working progress but as I finish things I am replacing with low tox options and yes starting with things we have more exposure too. It is amazing what a simple lemon can be used for!!! The kids were even excited when their low tox bath wash, hair products and toothpaste arrived!

I recently detoxified my home, giving away all my old chemical products. I now make my own or buy natural products and I love the Eco Store brand though so far I’ve only tried their dishwasher powder and laundry powder. I love the beautiful natural smells, and I now can’t even go into the supermarket laundry aisle as the chemical fragrances make me feel ill!! The products look nice too, which is an added bonus 🙂
