I try to avoid using food products in cans, and find store-bought dips expensive and full of unnecessary ingredients. How about you? This Can Free Hommus is all natural, extremely cost effective, and serving plenty, is the perfect party recipe. For standard weekly use, simply make half a batch and store in the fridge in an airtight container. Alternatively, you might like to share with friends – it makes a lovely gift when given in a nice glass jar.
- 200g dried chickpeas
- Water, to soak and boil
- The juice of 1 large lemon
- ¼ cup sesame seeds
- ¼ olive oil, plus more for serving
- 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- Sea salt, to taste
- Ground paprika, for serving
Method
- Soak chickpeas overnight in water. Rinse and drain well.
- Transfer chickpeas into a pot of water, bring to the boil and then simmer for 20-25 minutes or until tender. Drain and set aside to cool.
- Add cooked chickpeas, lemon juice, sesame seeds, oil, garlic, cumin and salt to a high performance blender and blend until smooth. I use a Vitamix and really needed the tamper stick for this recipe, so please keep this in mind if you are using an alternate blender.
- Transfer into a large bowl and top with olive oil and ground paprika before serving. Just divine served with fresh vegetable sticks and/or grain free crackers.
